Texans: How to register to vote in 2018. Oct. 9 is the last day you can
Are you planning to vote in the Nov. 6 mid-term election?
If so, Oct. 9 is the last day you can make sure you are registered to vote.
Election officials say they’ll keep the doors open an extra hour — until 6 p.m. — to give local voters a little more time to drop off voter registration forms.
“Make sure you check your voter registration,” urged Heider Garcia, Tarrant County’s elections administrator. “If there’s any need to update anything — if you changed your name, got married, moved — you need to re-register.
“Call us.”
Find out if you’re registered: You can check your status online at the Texas Secretary of State’s website, votetexas.gov, or by calling the local elections office at 817-831-8683.
Get applications here: Voter registration applications are available online; at the Tarrant County Elections Administration, 2700 Premier St.; and at subcourthouses, city halls, libraries and post offices. They must be dropped off at the election office or clearly postmarked by Oct. 9.
Running late? If you’re running out of time on Tuesday, you can fax or email a copy of your voter registration form to county election officials. But they must receive the original form in the mail no later than Saturday, Oct. 13, Garcia said. For more information on this, call the elections office at 817-831-8683.
Extra help and time: There will be elections officials working at Tarrant County courthouses Tuesday, handing out voter registration forms and helping as needed. The Tarrant County Elections Office, at 2700 Premier St. in Fort Worth, will be open Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“The Texas Secretary of State’s office wants to ensure that all eligible Texans can cast their ballots with confidence this November, and the first step in doing so is to make sure you are registered and ready to make your trip to the polls,” Texas Secretary of State Rolando Pablos said.
Early voting for the Nov. 6 mid-term election runs from Oct. 22-Nov. 2.
