New short-term rental proposed for Fort Worth’s Lake Como neighborhood faces opposition
A Lake Como homeowner will become the first under Fort Worth’s new rules to petition the city for permission to rent out her home as a short-term rental.
The new rules passed by the City Council in February require short-term rentals, like those listed on Airbnb and Vrbo, to be registered with the city and comply with zoning rules. Those who don’t comply could face fines if they list their property without registering.
The Lake Como home is in a single family neighborhood and would need to be rezoned to allow for a short-term rental to comply with the city’s ordinance.
However, neighbors have already expressed opposition to the proposed change, arguing there’s no way to control what kind of groups will use the four-bedroom home at 5404 Wellesley Ave., according to Elle Burton, chair of the Lake Como Neighborhood Advisory Council.
Property owner Laura Tucker wrote in her application she will comply with city rules that limit 10 guests on the property and will have a property management company on call at all times.
The city’s zoning commission will hear the case at its 1 p.m. meeting Wednesday at Fort Worth City Hall. The earliest the city council could take up the case would be May 9.
