Gov. Greg Abbott and the Texas Education Agency announced Wednesday a virtual map that will detail where meals will be provided across the state amid widespread school closures.

The “Texas Students MealFinder Map” will be updated continuously and include the address of each facility, and the days and times when meals will be served, according to a news release. The searchable map will officially launch Friday and be available on the TEA’s website.

“I am grateful for our local education agencies’ commitment to their students by providing meals to families as our schools remain temporarily closed,” Abbott said in a statement. “The State of Texas urges our local partners to complete this application through the Texas Department of Agriculture to ensure accurate, up-to-date information is available for Texas families.”

To be included, schools are requested to fill out an application through the Texas Department of Agriculture’s website, and information will be shared with TEA.

Fort Worth ISD is one of many local school districts providing “to go” lunches, and while children do not have to attend a school within the Fort Worth ISD they do need to be present to receive one.

A list of locations and times where school districts in Tarrant County are providing meals can be found here.
