A woman giving her sister a haircut stabbed her in the neck with a broken wine glass, California police say.

The 67-year-old Acton woman was arrested on a count of attempted murder Tuesday, Oct. 28, the Simi Valley Police Department said in a news release.

McClatchy News is not naming the woman as she has not been formally charged.

Officers responded to a report of a woman being “stabbed in the neck with a pair of scissors,” police said.

When they arrived, police said they found a woman with a serious wound to her neck.

Officers provided the woman with medical care, then she was taken to a hospital, police said, adding that she is expected to survive.

Through an investigation, officers identified the woman’s sister as a suspect, police said.

Officers learned the woman was getting a haircut from her sister “when, without provocation,” the sister “broke a wine glass and stabbed the victim in the neck with the broken glass,” according to police.

McClatchy News reached out to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office and is awaiting a response on formal charges.

Simi Valley is about a 40-mile drive northwest from Los Angeles.
