Mom throws 9-month-old across room, slaps him in frustration, Ohio police say
An Ohio woman was arrested after police say she threw her 9-month-old son across a room, leaving him on life support.
The 30-year-old woman is charged with felonious assault, according to Franklin County court records.
McClatchy News is not naming the woman to protect the identity of the child.
The charge stems from an incident on Sept. 17 when first responders were called to a Columbus home for reports of an unresponsive infant, WCMH reported. Police were then notified by a hospital around 6:30 p.m. that the baby was in critical condition and had traumatic injuries believed to be from foul play, the outlet reported.
Court records show the baby is being kept alive on life support, according to the Columbus Dispatch.
The baby’s mom told police she threw him 15 feet across a room and he landed on his head, court records said, according to the outlet.
She also told detectives she has thrown him shorter distances in the past and spanked and slapped him in the face out of frustration, WSYX reported, citing a criminal complaint.
Another toddler was in the home at the time but was uninjured, the outlet reported.
The woman is being held on no bond and is scheduled to be back in court Sept. 19.
