Man hit 2-month-old baby over 40 times, killing her in Iowa, police say
An Iowa man may face additional charges after authorities say a baby he’s accused of beating has died.
Dylan James Brown was charged with child endangerment, willful injury - causing serious injury and domestic assault, court records show.
First responders were called to a home in Grimes on Aug. 7 for reports of a baby not breathing, KCCI reported. The baby was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, according to the outlet.
Court records said the baby’s mom woke up to Brown hitting the baby and when she tried to stop him, he hit her, chased her out of the room, and choked her until she passed out, WHO-DT reported.
A criminal complaint said the baby had “injuries to the brain, vagina, left arm and temple,” the outlet reported.
Brown told investigators he hit the baby “over 40 times with an open and closed hand,” the complaint said, according to WOI-DT.
The baby remained on life support, but on Aug. 19, the sheriff’s office released an update saying the baby died, the outlet reported.
The sheriff’s office will work with the Polk County Attorney’s Office to determine if charges will be upgraded, WHO-DT reported.
Brown is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 25.
