Mom ‘started screaming’ while on phone with daughter. She won MI lottery jackpot
A mother started screaming — and didn’t stop for 30 minutes — when she found out she won a lottery jackpot in Michigan while on the phone with her daughter.
The mother and daughter were both in disbelief over the win, and rightfully so, as the mom had won one of the three $1 million top prizes offered in the Electric 100s scratch-off game, according to Michigan Lottery officials.
She purchased the $10 ticket at a store in Stanton, then began scratching it off as she talked to her daughter on the phone.
“When I scratched off the lightbulb symbol with ‘$1MIL’ next to it, I started screaming,” the 57-year-old told lottery officials in a June 23 news release. “My daughter thought something bad had happened because I kept yelling ‘No way!’”
She beat odds of 1 in 2,099,233 to win the top prize.
It took both of them some convincing.
“When I told her I won $1 million, she didn’t believe it, and honestly, I didn’t believe it either,” the winner told lottery officials. “I scanned it on the lottery app and when $1 million came up, I think I screamed for 30 minutes straight! I’m still in awe and I can’t believe I’m actually here claiming $1 million.”
Lottery officials said she chose a one-time lump sum payment of $693,000. The winner plans to “buy a house, share with her family and invest” her winnings.
Stanton is about a 50-mile drive northeast from Grand Rapids.
