10-year-old called 911 to say dad stabbed mom at Oregon home, officials say
A 10-year-old “showed bravery” by calling 911 to report her dad had stabbed her mom, then staying on the line to help her mother, Oregon officials said.
The dad fled and was arrested nearly three years later in San Francisco in March 2024, authorities said.
The girl called 911 in 2021 to say her parents were arguing and her dad, Manuel Jesus Huchin-Interian, stabbed her mom, according to an April 23 news release by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office.
The girl tried stabbing her dad, but the knife was too dull so she ran with her siblings to a different room and locked the door, officials said.
After her dad left the Gresham home, the girl stayed on the line with 911, providing help to her mom, officials said.
When officers arrived, they found the “lifeless” woman “face down in a pool of blood” with an 8-inch wound to the neck, officials said.
The woman told officers Huchin-Interian accused her of cheating on him before grabbing the knife and saying he was going to “finish her” and then “finish the kids,” officials said.
He pleaded guilty to assault in the second degree constituting domestic violence on April 18, officials said.
He will be sentenced to 70 months in prison, officials said.
“This case underscores the devastating impact domestic violence has on children in the home. The victim’s young daughter showed bravery and resilience that truly inspires us to work hard every day to interrupt the cycle of abuse and to keep families safe,” District Attorney Robin Beck Skarstad said in a statement.
Multnomah County is about a 6-mile drive east of Portland.
