Three men are dead after shots were fired during what authorities said was an “illegal gun sale/robbery” in a Virginia neighborhood.

Four people, including three teens, are charged with “malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony unlawful assembly” in connection to the shooting, the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office said in an April 8 news release.

The shooting was reported at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, in Spotsylvania County, about a 60-mile drive southwest from Washington, D.C., deputies said.

Authorities identified two 18-year-old victims as Chase Feaster and Alonzo Goffney. The identity of a third victim was still being confirmed by the medical examiner’s office, according to an April 9 news release.

Witnesses told WTOP the gunshots sounded “like a machine gun.”

Deputies identified one of the suspects as 18-year-old Jeremiah Upson. Three others — two 16-year-olds and one 17-year-old were not named.

One of the 16-year-olds was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound, deputies said. The other three suspects are being held in jail without bond.

“We commend our detectives on bringing this tragedy to a closure,” the sheriff’s office said in the release.

Both Fredericksburg City Public Schools and Spotsylvania County Public Schools delayed class start times April 9 by two hours due to the shooting, according to the districts’ websites.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred yesterday evening in Spotsylvania. Our hearts go out to all who have been affected by this devastating loss,” Fredericksburg City Public Schools said in a statement.
