A 77-year-old man drove past a railing and plunged off a parking platform, landing upside down in Washington, police said.

The incident happened before 9 a.m. Sunday, April 6, in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood, the police department said in a news release.

Police said the man had been parked at an apartment when he drove over a cement parking bumper and past a metal railing.

He then plunged 12 feet and landed upside down on a patio, police said.

First responders rushed to him and discovered him injured and trapped in the vehicle.

He was taken to a hospital in serious condition, police said.

Authorities are investigating the incident.
