A “say cheese” comment directed at a group taking a photo outside a restaurant launched a brutal attack in the parking lot, Kentucky police said.

After taking the photo on March 8, the group took someone in their party home. Then, Louisville police said the group returned to the restaurant’s parking lot.

The three people in the party that yelled “say cheese” got out of their car and the two groups confronted each other, police said.

One of the three people charged told police they felt “disrespected” by the comment, according to court documents filed March 18, and started to beat up someone in the group.

The group, including 19-year-old Seth Jones, honed in their attack on one person, police said. Then, a woman pulled a metal baton out of her purse and attempted to break up the fight, but someone pulled the baton out of her hand, police said.

The person started to beat up the woman with the baton, then threw it at the third person standing with the group, according to court documents.

The baton hit the person in the head and caused a skull fracture, brain bleed and concussion, police said.

The two other victims suffered contusions and bruising, according to court documents.

Jones was charged with three counts of assault and one count of unlawful transaction with a minor. The two co-defendants were not identified by police.

Jones was being held on a $20,000 bond, according to court records.
