Powerball player just misses $353 million prize — but still wins big in West Virginia
A Powerball ticket sold in West Virginia won $1 million but missed the $353 million jackpot, lottery officials said.
The ticket matched all five winning numbers but not the Powerball in the drawing Wednesday, March 12, the West Virginia Lottery said.
The lucky winner purchased their ticket at a convenience store in Hurricane, a 171-mile drive southeast from Cincinnati, Ohio, lottery officials said.
No one won the jackpot, which is up to an estimated $378 million, with a cash value of $177.5 million, for the next drawing Saturday, March 15, according to the national Powerball website.
The winning numbers March 12 were 11, 13, 28, 51 and 58, with a Powerball of 1, the lottery said. The Power Play multiplier was 2x.
One other person from Colorado matched all five winning numbers to win $1 million, according to the Powerball website. More than 450,000 Powerball tickets sold in the United States also won prizes ranging from $4 to $50,000, the lottery said.
The Powerball jackpot has not been hit since Jan. 18, when an Oregon player scored a $329 million prize.
What to know about Powerball
To score the jackpot in the Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball.
The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338.
Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state.
Drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:59 p.m. ET and can be streamed online.
Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
