26-year-old snowboarder vanished at Colorado resort. Now body found, coroner says
Two weeks after he vanished on the slopes at a Colorado skiing resort during a snowstorm, the body of a missing snowboarder was found, several outlets reported.
Connor Gill, a 26-year-old from the Denver area, was last seen just before 9 a.m. on Feb. 14 when he scanned in at a lift at Vail Mountain, KMGHreported.
He was reported missing when he didn’t return from the trip later that day, KDVR reported.
The area was pummeled by heavy snow conditions that day and for several days after, which complicated search efforts, Summit Daily reported.
Eagle County Coroner Kara Bettis confirmed Gill’s body was found Feb. 28 and identified Monday, March 3, several outlets reported.
His body was found after several days of warm conditions without snow, Summit Daily reported.
The resort told McClatchy News in an emailed statement Monday that Vail Ski Patrol recovered the missing snowboarder.
As many as 15 search and rescue agencies helped search for Gill.
In a statement, Beth Howard, chief operating officer at Vail Mountain, extended condolences to Gill’s family and friends and thanked the rescue efforts.
“We appreciate all of the rescue agencies who conducted this search alongside Vail Ski Patrol,” the statement said.
