Driver fleeing police kills Arkansas road worker and is arrested in Chicago, cops say
A man accused of a deadly hit-and-run at a construction site on an Arkansas interstate has been arrested months later in Chicago, police said.
Calvion Dayshun Thomas, 24, was pulled over during a traffic stop by Chicago police and arrested on Feb. 17, Arkansas State Police said in a Feb. 24 news release. He’s charged with murder, battery, theft by receiving and fleeing.
Thomas was driving a maroon Corvette when he was pulled over in West Memphis in September, police said. During the stop, he sped away from police and onto Interstate 55, where he crashed into a construction site, troopers said.
He struck and killed 36-year-old construction worker Justin Delgado, according to state police.
One other construction worker was also injured, police said in a Nov. 1 news release.
Thomas, of Memphis, Tennessee, then fled the scene, launching a months-long search, police said.
West Memphis, Arkansas, is about a 530-mile drive southwest from Chicago.
