A lucky lottery player became a multi-millionaire when he won a top prize from a scratch-off game in North Carolina, lottery officials said.

Terry Millsaps, of Bryson City, spent $50 on a $10 Million Spectacular ticket and won a $10 million prize, the North Carolina Education Lottery said in a Feb. 24 news release.

He purchased his ticket at a convenience store in Belmont, about a 15-mile drive west from Charlotte, lottery officials said.

The $10 Million Spectacular game began in December 2023 and features prizes ranging from $50 to $10 million, the lottery said.

Two $10 million top prizes remain, lottery officials said in the release. The odds of winning a top prize are 1 in 3,255,582, and the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.11, according to officials.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
