Sweet dog waiting 2 years in shelter needs a home. ‘Overlooked time and time again’

A pup in Indiana has been waiting for a long time for someone to finally notice her and take her home to begin a new — and happy — life.
Sammie, a black pit bull mix, has “been waiting over two years for a family of her own,” the Humane Society for Hamilton County in Fishers said in a Feb. 17 Facebook post.
“For over 800 days, Sammie has watched as dog after dog finds a home—while she’s still waiting,” the shelter said. “She arrived at the shelter in October 2022, confused and scared. While other dogs were quickly adopted, Sammie kept getting overlooked, time and time again.”
Sammie has been living in a foster home, where the shelter said she’s “blossomed into the sweet, loving girl she was meant to be.”
“But as much as she loves her foster family, a foster home is not forever,” the shelter said.
Along with her abundance of patience, Sammie has other attributes that make her a great companion, according to the shelter.
“Sammie is a gentle soul with so much love to give. She lights up when she gets to go on car rides, wags her whole body when it’s time for pup cups, and leans in for snuggles with the people she trusts,” the shelter said. “But every day that passes, she’s still waiting for a family to choose her. Sadly, black dogs like Sammie often get passed over, and she’s proof of just how long they have to wait.”
“Sammie doesn’t want to be the dog who spends her life waiting. She needs a home where she’s loved, wanted, and cherished—where she’ll never be left behind again. If you’ve ever thought about adopting, please, come meet Sammie. She’s ready to give her heart to someone—she just needs you to give her a chance.”
According to her pet profile, Sammie will make anyone laugh “with her adorable tooth chomps”, and her favorite things in life include:
Shopping trips
Snuggling
Walks
Car rides
Zoomies
Water splashes
“Sammie would love a home where someone is around frequently. She’s built up her confidence and can handle being left alone for a few hours, but she’d be sad if left alone all day. She does best with slow introductions to other dogs and has done great with calmer dogs after a proper intro,” her profile says. “Sammie would love a cat-free home with kids who are at least 12 years of age.”
