Man sexually abused stepdaughter, MN cops say. He’s charged when teen comes forward
A 15-year-old girl told her mother about the years of sexual abuse she faced by her stepfather, Minnesota police said.
It started when she was around 8 to 9 years old, she told Crow Wing County investigators. Her stepfather would force her into repeated sex acts, then gift her things such as money, food and a phone, according to accusations made in a probable cause statement filed Feb. 10 in district court.
The abuse continued until she was 11, according to police. Years later, her 34-year-old stepfather is facing criminal charges.
McClatchy News is not naming the suspect to protect the identity of the girl. The stepfather’s attorney information was not listed.
He was charged with three counts of criminal sexual conduct and faces up to 90 years in prison if convicted, according to court documents.
When brought in for questioning, he told police that he remembered few details of the abuse because he had consumed “a lot” of alcohol, according to court documents.
He said he groped the girl when he believed she was 12 or 13 years old, the statement said. The man also said he had downloaded child pornography on his phone, which police also discovered during a search, court documents said.
The stepfather is being held in jail on a $250,000 bond, according to court records.
He is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 18.
Crow Wing County is about a 160-mile drive northwest from St. Paul.
