A shelter in Philadelphia is desperate to home an affectionate cat who is in her final days and deserves to be comfortable —- and more importantly, loved.

A few months prior, the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) introduced Parsnip, a 14-year-old domestic shorthair who can come off as shy at first — until she gets to know you.

“I’ve been told I’m a senior, but age is just a number, right?” her online pet profile says. “I’m a bit shy at first, but give me a little time and I’ll warm up to you. I’m a mellow girl, preferring quiet moments over chaos. I don’t mind being the only pet, in fact, I prefer it. I’m friendly too, I promise. I just need someone patient, someone who understands that trust takes time.”

Unfortunately, the shelter was on the hunt for a “hospice home,” a place where she could comfortably die, knowing unconditional love.

“In her senior years, her health had declined and her body was slowly weakening - we wanted nothing more than for her to experience the comfort of a home,” the shelter said in a Jan. 15 Facebook post.

And then, the tides turned for the beautiful girl.

“But now three months since, Parsnip is in much better shape and officially back on the adoption floor!” the shelter said. “She is still battling several medical conditions, but she is a fighter. Her digestion has been much more regulated with daily harness walks around the shelter and her chronic respiratory infections are managed.”

While she’s feeling better, her ailments haven’t disappeared, and the shelter noted that she still doesn’t have much time left.

“While we are so happy that she is in better spirits, Parsnip is not out of the woods. Sadly, our previous suspicions were true - she is in renal failure. And we are still desperately looking for a home for this sweet girl, no matter how much time she has left.”

For more information on Parsnip, visit the shelter’s website.
