Puppies in Kentucky shelter have been ignored nearly a year. ‘We can’t understand why’
A small group of dog siblings who have spent nearly their entire lives in a Kentucky shelter are beyond ready to start a new chapter — one that includes finding the perfect home.
Unfortunately, despite their people-loving natures, they continue to be overlooked.
“As we reflect on last summer and warmer days, sitting in the yard hanging out with Moxie, Malachi, Monster and Mayhem,” the Ashland Animal Rescue Fund said in a Jan. 13 Facebook post.
“Such beautiful memories with these big hearted dogs. It’s bitter-sweet though because we expected them to have found homes by now,” the group said. “They still sit here. Waiting. Day in, day out.”
The four dogs — plott hounds — are 9 months old and came to the shelter as strays. No one has taken an interest in them since.
“We can’t understand why because they love every single human they meet,” the shelter said. “They are dog friendly and play well with others. They are full of love and give the best hugs and kisses. They love to be in your lap. They are family dogs.”
The photos show a timeline from when they were little doe-eyed puppies, to the sweet-hearted, nearly 1-year-olds they are now.
“They are playful and fun with such beautiful energy. They are pretty much perfect in our eyes,” the shelter added. “They have grown up in this kennel and that’s not fair to them. We have posted videos, pictures over and over and still no interest. It is absolutely heartbreaking. But we will never ever give up on them.”
People in the comment section of the post were baffled the dogs have yet to find a home.
“These are precious dogs and I hate it that they’re still not in their forever home,” one person said.
“All of the furbabies are gorgeous and they have great big smiles on their faces,” another commented.
Since the canines were raised in a kennel environment, the shelter asks that future owners be patient and able to “be shown the ropes.”
“We love them so much and we know they will find families who will treasure them as we do,” the shelter said.
Ashland is about a 120-mile drive northeast from Lexington.
