A sweet dog in a Kentucky shelter forgot all about the fact that she’s been without a home for almost her entire life when those who love her got together and threw her a fun-filled birthday party.

Ivory, a young boxer mix, was surrendered to the Kentucky Humane Society in Louisville after her owner couldn’t care for her, her pet profile says. Along with her playful nature, she is an intelligent canine who loves to snuggle and will make a perfect companion. Unfortunately, she’s been overlooked at the shelter for a significant amount of time.

“Ivory just celebrated her SECOND BIRTHDAY in the shelter — something no animal should ever have to do,” the shelter said in a Jan. 12 Facebook post. “We’re heartbroken that her forever family still hasn’t come along, but made the best of her big day with a homemade peanut butter cake, lots of snuggles and some playtime in the snow.”

Photos show Ivory — pretty in pink — donning a birthday hat, getting kisses from shelter staff and enjoying the winter weather outdoors.

The shelter has posted numerous times about Ivory since her arrival and even gave her a “glamour shots” photo shoot late last year.

Ivory does have specifications when it comes to a new home.

“Ivory’s ideal home will have older, dog-savvy children who can keep up with her rambunctious energy,” the shelter said in a Dec. 15 Facebook post.

“She’ll need an active family to help her manage that bouncy, flouncy energy but settles into routines well and demands you pay the ‘snuggle tax’ after long walks.”

The pup has even toured Louisville in hopes of finding the perfect family along with making an appearance on the radio last year.

Throughout her entire life, Ivory has only spent four months out of the shelter.
