Two adults were arrested after being accused of assaulting high school basketball players from the opposing team during a game, Maryland deputies said.

On Dec. 19, “hard play” took place during a basketball game at St. Michaels High School, according to a Facebook post by the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office.

Then a fight broke out, and Leonard Darnell Bell, 60, and Kasai Jermaine Thompson, 22, rushed from the stands and attacked two players from the opposing team, officers said.

Coaches were able to break up the fight, and the opposing team made it safely to its bus while the home team was secured in the gym, officers said.

Bell and Thompson were identified through security footage, deputies said.

McClatchy News reached out to St. Michaels High School on Dec. 31 for a statement and was awaiting a response.

Bell and Thompson were each charged with assault and disorderly conduct and are awaiting court hearings, deputies said.

The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call 410-822-1020, deputies said.

Talbot County is about a 70-mile drive southeast of Baltimore.
