19-year-old shoots, kills girlfriend who was 8 months pregnant, Pennsylvania cops say
A 19-year-old woman who was eight months pregnant was shot and killed by her boyfriend, Pennsylvania authorities say.
The Lansdowne Police Department said officers arrived at an apartment building Thursday, Nov. 14, for reports of someone being shot. Officers discovered the 19-year-old victim with a gunshot wound, according to a news release.
The gunshot victim, who authorities said was eight months pregnant, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said her unborn child was delivered in a hospital and was in critical condition.
An investigation revealed the woman’s live-in boyfriend, 19-year-old Kaiheem Jerelle Williams, was responsible for the killing, police said Nov. 18. He was arrested and charged with murder.
A motive for the killing is unclear. Authorities have not publicly identified the victim.
Lansdowne Police Chief Ken Rutherford referred to the case as “heartbreaking and disturbing.”
“The arrest of Kaiheem Williams is a testament to the relentless determination of our officers and the (Criminal Investigation Division) detectives. Their hard work has brought us one step closer to justice for the victim and her family,” Rutherford said in a news release.
According to a GoFundMe, the victim’s baby is “critically ill due to lack of oxygen at birth.”
Lansdowne is a southwest suburb of Philadelphia.
