Man watches lottery jackpot climb — then snags lucky ticket. ‘Somebody needs to win’
An Arkansas man used winnings from a previous lottery drawing and turned it into his biggest win yet, officials said.
The Camden man said he was keeping on eye on the Natural State Jackpot as the prize climbed to a “record-breaking $680,000,” according to a news release from Arkansas lottery officials.
“Somebody needs to win it,” the man thought to himself, according to lottery officials.
Using prize money from a previous drawing, he bought his Quick Pick ticket and checked it the next day.
When he scanned his ticket using the AR Lottery + Club app, he got a message telling him to visit the lottery claim center, according to the release.
“That’s weird,” he thought, according to lottery officials. “It’s never said that before.”
He then compared his numbers – 5, 15, 25, 27 and 30 – to the winning numbers and realized all five were a match, officials said.
“That’s when I started shaking,” the Camden man told lottery officials about winning the $680,000 jackpot.
He told lottery officials he called his parents first and next his wife to share the good news.
The winner said he plans to pay off debt and save the rest of the prize money, according to the release.
His winning ticket was purchased at Tobacco Station USA #4 in Camden, according to lottery officials.
Camden is about a 100-mile drive southwest from Little Rock.
