Shelter dog is ‘as socially awkward as they come’ — and needs a home. Meet Marlo

Delightfully quirky.

Adorably dorky.

Giant, strange, love-bug.

Choose any combination of words you’d like, but you’ll never settle on verbiage that best describes this pup out of Stratham, New Hampshire.

Marlo, a Weimaraner mix, just wants a home where a family can bask in the glow of his one-of-a-kind personality but unfortunately — due to his size and energy — he’s been overlooked at the New Hampshire SPCA, the shelter says.

“Real talk… Marlo, 6, is about as socially awkward as they come,” an Oct. 2 Facebook post from the shelter said. “This 72-pound goofball has never had a family to teach him how to do all the things… so when he does get to experience new things, he has the unique ability to make it weird for everyone involved.”

However, that doesn’t stop Marlo from loving with all his might.

“The President of the Weird Dog Club (Marlo) is what we’d consider ‘a lot of dog’… but he’s got a lot of heart, too,” the shelter said.

As it does with a lot of dogs living at shelters, the chaos of a kennel is starting to get to Marlo.

“Marlo has been in our care since August with very little adoption interest… 41 long days in a kennel for a big, energetic dog is hard… but before he even came to the New Hampshire SPCA, he had already spent a chunk of time at a shelter in South Florida. The truth is, all this time spent in a confined space is really starting to take its toll.”

According to the SPCA, Marlo has never had the training necessary to control his energy, or his sad moods.

“Mix his lack of training with his growing frustration of being homeless for so long, and we are presented with a dog who is having trouble regulating his big feelings,” the shelter continued in the post. “He will really benefit from a dog-savvy family that has the time and patience to work with him and teach him everything he needs to know.

“The world is this boy’s oyster and just the IDEA of said oyster simply gives him the zoomies.”

Other dogs in the home won’t be an issue for Marlo, since the SPCA says he possesses “Stage Five Clinger” vibes and sticks like Velcro to his dog buddies.

“He has won over the hearts of many of our dogs with his silly charm and down-for-anything spirit. He would really love if his future home came with another dog, but it’s not mandatory,” the shelter says.

Stratham is about a 55-mile drive north of Boston, Massachusetts.
