A teenage girl is accused of stabbing her 7-year-old sister to death in Michigan, police say.

Officers responded to a 911 call about a domestic disturbance from a home in Taylor, a suburb of Detroit, at 1:06 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, the Taylor Police Department said in a news release.

When police arrived, they found a young girl with “injuries consistent with being stabbed,” police said. She was taken to a hospital but ultimately died from her wounds.

The girl’s 13-year-old sister is accused of fatally stabbing her during an argument, police said. She was taken into custody.

It’s unclear what may have motivated the attack, and neighbors told WWJ they never saw this coming.

“Just last night I was talking to her and now she’s gone,” neighbor Julie Pagoto told the station. “She used to walk up and down the street everyday riding her bike, walking up and down the street stopping and talking to neighbors. She was just the sweetest little girl.”

Police have shared few details, citing the sensitivity of the case.

“This is a tragic event for the family, and we are ensuring that the necessary resources are being made available to support everyone involved. We ask the public to respect the family’s privacy as we carry out a thorough investigation,” police said.
