A Michigan father jumped into action when a stranger entered his home and repeatedly stabbed his daughter’s friend who was sleeping over, investigators told news outlets.

Deputies responded to a home in Plainfield Township — a roughly 10-mile drive northeast from downtown Grand Rapids — after a man called about a stabbing at about 3 a.m. Saturday, June 15, the Kent County Sheriff’s Office told WWMT.

According to officials, a 24-year-old man entered the home during the night and made his way upstairs where he found two girls sleeping, the homeowner’s daughter and one of her friends, WOOD reported. He stabbed the friend multiple times, officials say.

The homeowner confronted the man and held him at gunpoint until deputies showed up and took him into custody, the station reported.

The girl was taken to a hospital and was last reported in stable condition, the sheriff’s office told WXMI.

Investigators are “thankful we’re able to get this monster off the streets,” Undersheriff Bryan Muir told the station, adding that there is “nothing to connect the suspect” to anyone in the home.

“We really are trying to connect all the dots right now in the investigation to determine how we ended up at this residence,” Muir told the outlet.

The sheriff’s office said the homeowner’s daughter was not injured, WOOD reported.

Officials did not publicly identify the suspect and it’s unclear what, if anything, motivated the attack.
