A 50-year-old man died after snow from his family’s cabin fell on him, Utah police told news outlets.

Ryan Peterson was checking on a cabin that his family partially owns on April 17 in Brighton, according to KUTV.

Peterson, of Holladay, was clearing snow from the roof when a “large amount of snow slid off the roof, taking him with it,” according to ABC 4, citing police.

The man’s loved ones contacted police after they weren’t able to get ahold of him, ABC 4 reported.

During a welfare check, police found Peterson buried in the snow, according to KSL. Peterson’s boot and arm were visible.

Brighton is about 30 miles southeast of Salt Lake City.
