‘Extremely reckless’ driver crashes U-Haul into home during chase, Georgia troopers say
A U-Haul driver was speeding from police before crashing into the side of an Atlanta-area home, according to Georgia State Patrol.
The chase started Sunday, Oct. 16, when troopers joined local police in going after a group of accused burglars near Lake Carlton Road in Loganville, authorities wrote in a news release.
Troopers tried to stop the “extremely reckless” driver but were unsuccessful despite striking the truck’s passenger side twice, police said. A third attempt on the driver’s side caused the U-Haul to turn in to a trooper’s patrol car.
The U-Haul driver then lost control and careened into a house, troopers said. No injuries were reported.
Authorities didn’t say how many people were involved or if the driver was arrested.
The crash remains under investigation, troopers said.
A man was killed in a similar incident when he crashed into a tree after leading police on a chase near Augusta last week, McClatchy News reported. Investigators determined the driver was the same man wanted for armed robbery at a Walgreens days earlier.
Loganville is about 35 miles northeast from Atlanta.
