A student was injured while scaling New Hampshire’s Mount Monadnock, one of the most climbed mountains in the world, according to state officials.

While hiking the peak on a school field trip, the student was injured after sliding down a flat boulder on Wednesday, Oct. 11, according to a news release from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. The student’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Upon being notified by the state’s Fish and Game Department, mountain park staff and a conservation officer hiked to the student’s location and helped them down the mountain, according to the release.

No further information about the student has been provided, and the state’s Fish and Game Department did not immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request to comment.

Mount Monadnock, one of the most prominent peaks in the state, is situated about 60 miles northwest of Boston and receives 125,000 hikers each year, making it the second most-climbed mountain in the world after Mount Fuji in Japan, according to Traveller.com.

Three hikers were rescued from the summit last winter because of icy conditions, according to the Boston Globe.

There have also been multiple fatalities, several stemming from cardiac arrest, on Mount Monadnock in recent years, according to the Ledger Transcript, a local newspaper. Crews were able to revive three hikers who experienced cardiac arrest on the mountain over the past few years.
