Co-worker tries kidnapping woman as she walks home alone from work, California cops say
A woman’s co-worker tried to kidnap her while she was walking home from work alone, California authorities said.
The woman told police that over “the past several weeks she has received unwanted requests for dates, sexual harassment, and unwanted touching” from her co-worker, Reginald Maxime, 35, the Novato Police Department said in a Wednesday, Oct. 12, Facebook post.
As the woman was walking home on Nave Drive in Novato at around 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11, “she saw a grey SUV stop near her,” the post said.
Maxime exited the SUV and asked her to get in, police said.
When the woman refused, police said Maxime came towards her and “groped her on the outside of her clothing.”
“Maxime then picked her up by wrapping his arms around her, lifted her up and moved her toward the open door of his vehicle,” police said.
The woman tried to free herself from his grasp, police said.
After breaking free, she called 911, police said, and “Maxime returned to his vehicle and drove away from the area.”
A little more than an hour after officers arrived on scene, they located Maxime at a house on Muroc Lake Drive, police said.
Maxime was “taken into custody” on accusations of “attempted kidnapping, false imprisonment, and sexual battery” and was “booked into Marin County Jail,” according to police.
Novato is about 30 miles northwest of San Francisco.
