Elvis Presley’s ‘hideaway’ lists in California. Here’s why it’s the ‘House of Tomorrow’

A striking home that was way ahead of its time when it was constructed has graced the real estate market in Palm Springs, California, for $5.6 million.

Deemed “The House of Tomorrow” by Look Magazine in 1962, the four-bedroom, five-bathroom residence had an intoxicating futuristic appeal that drew in people from all over – including the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll himself, Elvis Presley, a news release from the listing agency said.

“This house was leased by Elvis when he was 31-32 for one year. It was deemed the house of tomorrow due to many of its advancements, such as vacuum ports for cleaning, indoor kitchen grill, and wall-mounted radios,” the release says.

“He never actually owned the house, just leased it for a year for $21,000. He was initially supposed to get married here, but once the press caught wind of that, he snuck out the back and flew to Las Vegas to have a private wedding.”

According to the release, he and his wife Priscilla Presley did end up stealing a few intimate moments together when they were able to honeymoon at the residence before he had to return to a movie set.

The 4,600-square-foot home is known for its “spaceship-like dynamic winged roofline” that “shelters four circular pods with the center of the house fanning out from the dramatic stepped waterfall,” the release says.

Other features include:

  • Stone walls

  • Swimming pool

  • Grand staircase

  • Terrace

“The property is done so well. It still has all the architectural integrities of when it was built and now is upgraded to a modern living house to today’s living standards,” listing agent Marc Sanders said in a statement.

The listing is held by Compass.
