A ‘Squid Game’ reality competition is coming — and you can compete for the $4.56M prize
A “Squid Game” reality competition is coming to Netflix, and participants will compete for a massive $4.56 million prize.
Netflix is calling the competition its “biggest ever social experiment,” and for good reason. The $4.56 million lump-sum cash prize is the largest in TV history, The Hollywood Reporter says.
“Squid Game: The Challenge” will be modeled off the hit show. But unlike the “Squid Game” series, those who are eliminated in the reality series will get to go home.
“As they compete through a series of games inspired by the original show - plus surprising new additions - their strategies, alliances, and character will be put to the test while competitors are eliminated around them,” Netflix said. “The stakes are high, but in this game the worst fate is going home empty-handed.”
“Squid Game” quickly became the most popular series on Netflix in 2021 and was recently renewed for a second season. In the scripted show, 456 down-on-their-luck participants compete in deadly children’s games, with the final person standing winning the ultimate prize.
It remains Netflix’s most popular series ever, with more than 1.65 billion hours viewed in its first four weeks.
Netflix is recruiting participants to compete in the reality competition, which will take place next year.
Eligible participants must be at least 21 years old, English speaking and available to participate for up to four weeks in early 2023.

“’Squid Game’ took the world by storm with Director Hwang’s captivating story and iconic imagery. We’re grateful for his support as we turn the fictional world into reality in this massive competition and social experiment,” said Brandon Riegg, Netflix VP of unscripted and documentary series. “Fans of the drama series are in for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real world contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest ever cash prize at the end.”
