The inside of this duplex for sale in California will give you ‘horror’ vibes. See why
The 1970’s and 1980’s were the ultimate decades for the horror movie genre, so much so that popular streaming services such as Netflix have found a way to nostalgically restore those chilling feelings with films and TV shows including “Fear Street” and “Stranger Things.”
Scarily enough, a duplex on the real estate market in the small tourist city of Big Bear Lake, California, for $450,000 embodies all those heart-stopping nostalgic vibes and manages to blend yesterday’s horror chills with today’s thriller chic.
The 848-square-foot home consists of two units — with one bedroom and one bathroom each. And what’s unique is that each room has its own horror movie theme.
“When you enter these units you’ll find yourself stepping into a portal back in time to the 80s complete with cool retro flooring and wallpaper,” the listing on Zillow.com says. “Each unit has been meticulously upgraded, you’ll find new kitchens, bathrooms, a new concrete driveway, new flooring, lighting, doors and hardware, retro stoves, newly upgraded HVAC units and much, much more.”
Going through the photos, the first word that may come to mind is “Airbnb,” which is what fans on the popular real estate Facebook page Zillow Gone Wild thought ... among other things.
Turns out, the duplex was a popular vacation rental before hitting the market.
“So, it’s a turnkey Airbnb is what you’re saying,” one person said.
“Can we normalize transforming our homes to exactly what we want instead of trying to stay neutral because that’s what ‘everyone’ likes,” another person expressed. “This is awesome!”
“Someone really enjoyed this house. It’s loved and in really good condition,” another observed. “That’s what I see. Yes it’s loud, but there is nothing here that costs a lot of money to renovate and honestly it is fun.”
“I think the B-52s filmed their videos here,” one person joked.
“I really appreciate the commitment here,” another said.
A couple Argus-eyed fans even caught on to one of the themes in the units.
“So many people in this thread have not seen ‘Stranger Things’ apparently,” someone said. “Every room in the one unit is themed from that show, even the bedroom is based off Eleven’s shirt.”
“Wow! Stranger Things for the win,” another exclaimed. “That’s a commitment.”
The property even has an Instagram page.
Big Bear Lake is about 96 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
