Betty White’s ‘dream vacation home’ lists for $8 million in California. Take a look

The breathtaking vacation home of Betty White has hit the real estate market in the seaside community of Carmel, California, for $7.95 million. And while its water views of the Point Lobos Nature Reserve sell itself, the fact that it was built by America’s favorite Golden Girl and her husband Allen Ludden is a huge bonus.

“As revered as Betty White’s public image was in real life, she was a private person,” listing agent Nicole Truszkowski said in a news release. “Betty’s home in Carmel was her special sanctuary and it was one of her favorite places to recharge and rejuvenate. Betty and her late husband, Allen Ludden, built their Carmel dream vacation home.”

The couple commissioned to have the four-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom beach house built after buying a piece of land in 1978, according to Dirt. It was completed in 1981, only a short time before Ludden died of stomach cancer.

“Spending time in Carmel was one of Betty’s favorite things to do,” Truszkowski continued in the statement. “She enjoyed many treasured moments with her family and close friends. The home embodies the spirit of Betty and Allen, it was eloquently understated with the focus on nature and the natural beauty surrounding the home.”

The 3,621-square-foot house was designed by architect Richard Hicks and is three-stories of pure sophistication complete with outdoor decks, floor-to-ceiling windows that allow light to freely flow, a backyard and so much more.

White shot to fame in the late 1930s but became a household name after her run on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” Biography.com said. She then went onto star in the popular series “The Golden Girls” a few years following the death of Ludden. Later, she would star in numerous films like “The Proposal” and went on to become the oldest host of “Saturday Night Live” in 2010.

White passed away in 2021, just a few weeks shy of her 100th birthday.

The listing is held by Nicole Truszkowski and Zak Freedman of Sotheby’s International Realty — Carmel Brokerage.

Carmel is about 75 miles south of San Jose.
