14-year-old dies after crash knocks him unconscious at Utah ski resort, officials say
A 14-year-old boy died after being knocked unconscious at a Utah ski resort, authorities told news outlets.
The teen was found unconscious with “life-threatening injuries” Sunday, Feb. 13, at Alta Ski Resort, The Salt Lake Tribune reported.
Ski Patrol was alerted to a collision in the Sugarloaf ski area shortly before 10 a.m., according to ABC 4. Emergency personnel rushed to the area and tried to save the boy, FOX 13 reported.
The teen was flown to a hospital about 20 miles away in Salt Lake City, according to KSL. He died from his injuries.
Authorities did not release information on what led to the crash, ABC 4 reported. They do not plan to release the boy’s name, according to KSL.
The Alta Marshal’s Office is investigating “to ensure all possible information is gathered and reported accurately,” The Tribune reported.
“We extend our sincere condolences to those affected by the tragic event and our thanks to those who responded,” the Marshal’s Office wrote in a statement to news outlets.
Alta Ski Resort was one of the first ski resorts to open in the U.S., it says. Nearly half of the resort’s ski area is “suitable for beginner and intermediate skiers.”
