Futuristic compound shaped like a hexagon lists in California for $9.8M. Take a look

Secluded within the rolling hilltops of Los Angeles sits an architectural wonder that has hit the market for $9.8 million.

While the home, which is hidden away in the Tujunga neighborhood above one of the country’s most famous ZIP codes, appears to have a futuristic flair radiating from its core, the home is actually multiple buildings that were built decades apart.

The oldest structure was built in 1953 by Austrian-American architect Richard Neutra, a modernist known for his work in the L.A. area, for his secretary, Dorothy Serulnic, the listing on Compass says. And, no offense to the other structures on the property, the original happens to be the coolest.

With two bedrooms and a bathroom, the 1,350-square-foot residence has walls of glass, a stone fireplace “and an original sofa system equipped with a record player and concealed speakers,” Mansion Global says.

The new main house holds its own, however. Built in 2010 by architect Michael Maltzan, the home boasts a seven-sided structure with an interior courtyard. The current owner, Michael “Flea” Balzary, the founder and bassist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, commissioned a 875-square-foot addition to the estate in 2021, Dirt reported.

Balzary purchased the home for $4.3 million four years ago, Dirt said.

Other amenities on the compound include:

  • Curated succulent garden

  • Outdoor movie pavilion

  • 50-foot lap pool

There is also a third structure on the property, according to the listing: a one-bedroom cabin.

The listing is held by Sherri Rogers and Elisa Ritt of Compass.
