Powerball jackpot of $750 million is fourth-largest
Twenty-five drawings, three months.
That’s how long the Powerball jackpot has gone without someone matching all the numbers, which pumps Wednesday’s drawing up to $750 million.
The cash option for this massive jackpot, the fourth-largest jackpot in U.S. history, would be worth $465.5 million, lottery officials say.
There are three jackpots that have been larger than this one, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association:
▪ The $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot in January 2016 that was claimed by winners in California, Florida, Tennessee.
▪ The $1.537 billion Mega Millions jackpot in October 2018 that was claimed by a winner in South Carolina.
▪ And the $758.7 million Powreball jackpot claimed in August 2017 by a winner in Massachusetts.
The current jackpot began as a $40 million prize on Dec. 29, 2018.
The winning numbers for Saturday night’s drawing, which reached $625 million, were 24, 25, 52, 60 and 66. The Powerball was 5.
The odds of winning are 1 in 292.2 million.
There have been two two Powerball jackpot winners in Texas since the state joined the game in 2010: a $40 million prize in May 2013 and $564.1 million jackpot in February 2015.
Powerball tickets cost $2. Players who match all the numbers except for the Powerball win $1 million, or $2 million if they purchase a $1 add on Power Play feature.
Drawings are broadcast in Texas on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:12 p.m.
