Heavy rain, possible flooding forecast for Thursday

The rainy season for the Dallas-Fort Worth area isn’t going away anytime soon.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Thursday in anticipation of heavy rain starting about 6 a.m. The forecasters put the chance of rain at 90 percent.

Some areas could get 2 to 4 inches if severe storms, which could include high winds and hail, form along a dry line Thursday afternoon or night. Rain could linger into Friday.

“I think the greater totals will be east of Interstate 35, but it’s all going to be dependent on where this boundary sets up,” said Steve Fano, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

Last month was the second-wettest October ever in the DFW area with 9.82 inches of rain. And with 48.91 inches of rainfall this year at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, 2015 is now the sixth wettest year on record. Last year, 21.32 inches was recorded at the airport.

The front will also bring cooler temperatures, with lows dropping into the upper 40s by the weekend.

And it won’t be the end of the rain.

Another storm system is expected to move through North Texas the middle of next week.
