Latest storms make October the 2nd wettest on record in DFW

Thunderstorms that moved through the Dallas-Fort Worth area late Friday and early Saturday delayed football games, flooded roads and made last month the second wettest October on record.

The storms were not nearly as serious as in central and south Texas, where tornadoes and flash floods have resulted in five deaths, the most recent two in Houston. Rainfall in some parts of the Austin area measured more than a foot, said Jason Dunn, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

“Some place down there ... were getting 6 inches in an hour,” Dunn said.

Dunn said there’s a slight chance of more rain Sunday morning and early afternoon, and then again later next week.

Here’s a look at the rain totals in the DFW area:

2.24 inches fell Friday and Saturday at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport.

4.2 inches fell Friday and Saturday at Arlington Municipal Airport, one of the highest amounts recorded in North Texas.

9.82 inches were measured in October, making it the second wettest October on record, behind 14.81 inches in 1981.

48.91 inches have fallen at DFW Airport this year, making it the sixth wettest year on record (No. 1 is 53.54 inches in 1991.)

21.32 inches of rain were recorded at DFW Airport last year.
