North Texas suburbs are among the fastest growing cities in the US
The top five fastest growing suburban areas in the United States are all in Texas, according to new data from the U.S. Census.
Celina, north of Dallas, has been recognized as the fastest growing city for the second consecutive year. From 2024 to 2025, the population increased by almost 25% to over 64,400 residents. The population was 16,739 in 2020.
The second-fastest growing city is Fulshear, west of Houston. Princeton, Melissa and Anna, all DFW suburbs, rank third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
Princeton, northeast of Dallas, saw population growth of over 18%, bringing its total to 43,524. This is significant growth from 2020, when the city had a population of just over 17,000.
Melissa, about 40 miles north of Dallas, reported a population of 29,969, a 14% increase from last year.
Pete Cain, mayor of Anna, said that though the city is more of a bedroom community today, it is on the cusp of bringing several new employment opportunities.
“It’s a very, very close-knit community, which is strange, considering that we’re pushing 40,000 people. It still feels like there’s only 1,500 people here today,” Cain said, adding that the people in Anna “embrace” one another.
Anna grew by over 10% in 2025, bringing the total population to 35,245. Anna is 11 miles northeast of Mckinney.
Matt Erickson, a statistician for the Census Bureau’s Population Division, said that the majority of growth in Texas is coming from domestic migration due to factors such as economic growth, the housing market, and even the weather.
The Dallas-Fort Worth metro, in particular, has gained more residents through domestic migration than any other metro area in the country this decade, Erickson said.
