Roaches seen at Fort Worth Subway during recent health inspections

A Fort Worth Subway was temporarily closed after roaches were seen in the kitchen during the latest round of city health inspections, according to the inspection reports.

Fort Worth’s restaurant inspections function on a demerit system: Zero demerits is considered a perfect score. Restaurants with over 30 demerits are required to fix the worst issues immediately and remedy the rest within 48 hours.

There were 182 inspections conducted between April 26 and May 9, according to the data compiled by the Star-Telegram.

One food establishment was closed for serious health violations.

Subway at 800 Fifth Ave. was temporarily closed after health inspectors observed roaches in the back kitchen area under the prep table and gnats in both the front and back area. The restaurant scored 6.

In addition to Subway, health inspectors observed a dead roach and fruit flies at Hacienda Buffet Antigua at 1950 Menefee Ave. The restaurant scored 27.

Six other restaurants scored high demerits.

  • Star Food Mart at 1799 E Lancaster Ave. Score: 34.
  • Kyushu Hibachi Steakhouse & Sushi at 8933 Tehama Ridge Pkwy. Score: 31.
  • Ibarra’s Tortilleria at 1109 NW 25th St. Score: 28.
  • Fuego Burger at 4400 Benbrook Highway, Suite 108. Score: 27.
  • Hacienda Buffet Antigua at 1950 Menefee Ave. Score: 27.
  • Taqueria San Luis at 1200 NW 28th St. Score: 25.
