Cameras capture boy shooting at dogs with gel gun in north Fort Worth
Residents in a far north Fort Worth neighborhood have expressed outrage over Ring camera footage showing a juvenile shooting at two dogs with what appears to be a gel gun.
According to police records, the shooting took place on April 4 in the 4000 block of Cane River Road, near the intersection of North Riverside Drive and North Tarrant Parkway.
A police spokesperson said no charges will be filed because neither the dogs nor the shooters could be located. Police have characterized the gun used in the incident as a “Nerf gun.”
In the Ring video, a person dressed in black pants and a gray T-shirt, with a gray sweatshirt draped over his shoulder, chases two dogs down a residential street, spraying them with pellets from what looks like a gel gun. Gel guns fire small, round water-based pellets that resemble paintball pellets.
Both dogs in the video were tan colored, and the larger one resembled a Labrador retriever. The smaller dog ran away from the assailant while the larger one cowered beneath a parked vehicle. The shooter crouched down to shoot the dog while it hid from him.
This all happened at around 2 p.m., according to police records.
City Council member Charles Lauersdorf, who represents far north Fort Worth, posted the video to his Facebook page and asked residents to call police with information about the shooters.
According to records, a resident told police her cameras recorded three young males on the sidewalk outside her home with gel guns, and she said the footage showed two of them shooting at the dogs, which were in the resident’s driveway.
The Ring camera video that was posted publicly shows only one shooter, but he appears to call out to another person at one point.
The police spokesperson said officers responded to the report of juveniles shooting at dogs, but they didn’t find anyone to question.
In Facebook group posts for the nearby Heritage neighborhood, residents shared their disgust with what they saw on the video.
