Woman dead, 2 children injured after SUV drives over wall on I-35W in Fort Worth

A 39-year-old woman who was driving a sport utility vehicle on an interstate in north Fort Worth died early Monday in a crash in which an infant and toddler were injured, authorities said.

Shiceria Polk swerved into a grass median in the northbound lanes of Interstate 35W, continued through the grass to the bridge at Westport Parkway and drove over a wall onto the road below, authorities said.

The SUV crashed about 12:30 a.m. into a wall on the opposite side of the road, Fort Worth police said.

Polk’s death was caused by blunt force injuries, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office concluded. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The children were in good condition when they were taken to a hospital, according to a Fort Worth Fire Department spokesperson.

The police department is investigating the circumstances of the crash.
