A pedestrian was killed early Sunday after being struck by a vehicle on Texas 183 in Irving, police said.

A vehicle was traveling eastbound in the right lane in the 3400 block of 183 about 2 a.m. when a person was walking in the roadway in the same lane, Irving police said in a statement.

The driver did not see the person in the roadway and could not avoid hitting them, according to police.

The vehicle came to an immediate stop after the collision and was then struck from behind by a second vehicle, police said.

The pedestrian died at the scene, police said.

“There was no evidence of intoxication or excessive speed by either driver; therefore, no criminal charges are anticipated,”according to the statement.

The person who died will be identified by the medical examiner’s office once next of kin have been notified.
