A 68-year-old woman was identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as the person who was found dead in a Fort Worth field, likely due to cold exposure.

Geneva Pena Contreras died outdoors after being exposed to the bitterly cold weather on Tuesday, Jan. 27, when the temperature was well below freezing.

Contreras’ body was discovered in a soccer field in the 2900 block of East Seminary Drive, near IDEA Southeast School and Federal Medical Center Fort Worth prison, Fort Worth police have said.

Officers responded to the field about 4 p.m. after a 911 caller reported that a crew who had been clearing snow found her body, police said.

Contreras was pronounced dead by a Fort Worth Fire Department paramedic.

A second person who was found dead outside during January’s winter storm has been identified as 56-year-old Kenneth Dwayne Riddle.

Riddle was found unresponsive inside a tent at a homeless camp in the woods near the service road to Northwest Loop 820 about 12:55 p.m. on Jan. 28, Fort Worth police said.

Police do not suspect foul play in either case. The medical examiner’s office will make official determinations on the cause and manner of death.
