A child shot and injured himself at a Fort Worth home on Tuesday night after accessing a gun safe, a 911 caller told authorities.

The caller told a 911 operator that the boy was shot in the stomach and was turning blue and pale, according to police call records.

When officers responded to the home, they found the child with a gunshot wound to the lower torso, a police spokesperson said. The child was taken to a hospital to be treated and was in stable condition Tuesday night.

Gun violence detectives were notified to investigate how the shooting happened.
