Fire damages four townhomes, displaces 15 residents at west Fort Worth complex
Fort Worth firefighters battled a fire that damaged four units at a townhome apartment complex and displaced 15 residents on Thursday.
Just before 6:30 a.m., the Fort Worth Fire Department received calls about the blaze in the 2100 block of Remington Street, in west Fort Worth.
The first crews arrived within three minutes and found heavy smoke coming from the top floor of a three-story apartment building, the department said in a social media post. Firefighters went inside to ensure everyone was out of the building safely. Shortly after declaring a working fire, the incident commander requested a second alarm to assign additional units and manpower.
“After 15 minutes of fighting the fire offensively, it became clear that the integrity of the structure was too compromised and the incident commander ordered everyone to evacuate the building in order to shift to a defensive attack,” the post said. “This decision allowed the firefighters to combat the blaze without the threat of a structural collapse on them.”
Crews from the River Oaks Fire Department assisted, and after over an hour of active firefighting, the fire was under control.
All four units in the building were heavily damaged. The American Red Cross of Greater North Texas responded to provide emergency assistance to 13 adults and two children who were displaced.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
