The man who was killed Thursday night in a motorcycle crash on an Interstate 30 entrance ramp in west Fort Worth has been identified as a Lewisville firefighter.

Michael Swope was a devoted husband and father to three children, Lewisville Fire officials said Friday on Facebook. He was off duty at the time of the crash.

The accident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. in the area of 100 Camp Bowie Blvd., where the street enters the eastbound lanes of I-30. Swope’s motorcycle hit a guardrail, according to Fort Worth police. The firefighter was thrown off his bike and died at the scene.

Swope was always watching out for his colleagues and making sure they were taken care of, the Lewisville Fire Fighters Association said on Facebook. He also served as a paramedic and field training officer, and had worked with the city of Lewisville since 2019.

“At home, Michael was a loving husband who cherished his wife and a devoted father who took immense pride in his children,” the post reads. “His family was his foundation, and his love for them drove everything he did.”

A fundraiser has been set up through Help A Hero to support Swope’s wife and children.
