Body found in search for missing kayaker at Marine Creek Lake in Fort Worth
Searchers who were looking for a missing man at Marine Creek Lake in Fort Worth found a body on Wednesday evening.
The Tarrant Regional Water District Law Enforcement Division and Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens recovered the body about 5:45 p.m., TRWD said in a news release. The body matches the description of the missing man, 24-year-old Juan Silvestre Salgado, and will be turned over to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office for identification.
The search began Monday after a friend of Salgado’s called 911 when his truck was found near a boat ramp at the lake.
After two days of searching, police asked the public to share any information that might help. Fort Worth police posted a missing person alert for Salgado on the department’s social media Wednesday morning.
Fort Worth police said in a news release that they received a call about 8 p.m. Monday alerting them that a person was missing in the 4700 block of TCC Lakeside Drive.
Salgado’s last known contact with friends and family was around 10 a.m. Monday, when he said he was going fishing and kayaking, according to police. After several hours without contact, family members pinged his last known location, which led officers to the search area.
The FWPD Air One helicopter responded and police spotted Salgado’s empty kayak on the east side of the lake Monday night.
Fort Worth Fire Department divers searched until about 11 p.m. Monday, when officials with the Tarrant Regional Water District arrived and assumed search operations.
The search team also has included a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department dog and her handler, a parks department spokesperson said.
