Man sentenced to over 7 years in ‘jugging’ robbery of ATM technician in North Texas
A Houston man was sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison on Monday for his role in the “jugging” robbery of an ATM technician in North Texas, prosecutors said.
A “jugging” robbery occurs when thieves follow a victim as they service or withdraw cash from ATMs or banks and rob them, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas .
Corey Dashun Holloway, 30, pleaded guilty in September to the felony charge of “interference with commerce by robbery” in the July 2024 robbery of an ATM technician, according to the news release.
Holloway is the fourth defendant to be sentenced in this case, along with Houston residents Johnny Juwan Clark, Tierra Toneisha Brandyberg, and Roosevelt Ford Valentine .
The defendants have been linked to the “Hiram Clarke Money Team,” a Houston-based criminal organization, the news release states. They are known to travel to areas outside of Houston to commit “jugging” robberies and other crimes.
In this case, Holloway said on July 3, 2024 he drove in a rental car from Houston to the Dallas-Fort Worth area and “followed an ATM technician to multiple stops as the technician repaired ATMs in Irving, Grand Prairie, Arlington, and ultimately in Midlothian,” , according to the release.
Around 5:30 p.m. in Midlothian, Holloway and Valentine were wearing hoodies when they approached the ATM tech as he serviced an ATM at a bank in Midlothian.
Clark, another member of the “team,” came from behind and forced the technician to the ground. “Clark kept his fist to the back of the victim’s head as canisters containing U.S. dollars were removed from the ATM by Holloway and Valentine,” according to the release.
Approximately $260,000 was taken during the robbery, according to the news release.
Two days after the robbery, Holloway was caught on video at a jewelry store in Houston buying a diamond Rolex and other jewelry.
Brandyberg was sentenced for more than three years in November and Clark was sentenced to eight years in August for the robbery, the new release states.
Valentine pleaded guilty to three “jugging” robberies and is awaiting sentencing.
